Pittacus Lore
Pittacus Lore is the collective pseudonym used by authors James Frey and Jobie Hughes for the Lorien Legacies, a young adult science fiction series. The series began with I Am Number Four in 2010, which became a New York Times bestseller and was adapted into a film released in 2011. The books follow nine alien teenagers from the planet Lorien who hide on Earth while developing powers to fight their enemies, the Mogadorians.
James Frey, born in 1969 in Cleveland, Ohio, is known for his memoir A Million Little Pieces (2003). He founded the publishing venture Full Fathom Five, which produced the Lorien Legacies series. Jobie Hughes, born in 1980 in Renton, Washington, earned a degree in business from Ohio University and an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University. He co-authored the first two books in the series before departing the project.
The Lorien Legacies series includes seven main novels: I Am Number Four (2010), The Power of Six (2011), The Rise of Nine (2012), The Fall of Five (2013), The Revenge of Seven (2014), The Fate of Ten (2015), and United as One (2016). The series expanded with the Lorien Legacies Reborn trilogy—Generation One (2017), Fugitive Six (2018), and Return to Zero (2019)—and several novellas collected in The Lost Files.
The pseudonym Pittacus Lore is also a character within the series, portrayed as a Loric Elder who narrates and documents the events. This metafictional approach adds a layer of immersion for readers. The books have been translated into multiple languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide.
