The story begins with Sookie’s relationship with vampire Bill Compton under strain. Bill disappears under suspicious circumstances, and Sookie learns he may have betrayed her with another vampire.
Despite her heartbreak, she sets out to rescue him when she discovers he has been captured by enemies. Her search leads her to Club Dead, a dangerous nightclub in Jackson, Mississippi, frequented by vampires and werewolves.
